Forster Pechstein Eiswein
WINE: The very creation of the wine is as wonderful as the wine itself. On the 20.12.2008 we had the first Ice wine night in the Palatinate. However, because of the weather forecast we decided to wait for one more night, to get grapes that were really frozen through. But come evening time, we were disillusioned; a sudden warm front was going to destroy our good intentions. The temperatures went up again and we had nearly called off the harvest. However in the morning hours of the 21.12.2008, the cold hand of fog and mist suddenly settled on our vineyard and made the impossible still possible.
Along with our team, we harvested an ice wine with a must weight of 190° Oe. This result and the quality produced are the reward and likewise the culmination of the 2007 vintage.
SOIL: Black basalt in the surface soil and subsoil. Also elements of clay and limestone.
HARVEST: 21.12.2007
YIELD: not quantifiable due to the number of selections that took place in the Ungeheuer site:
NUMBER OF BOTTLES PRODUCED approx. 180 Fl. (converted to 0.75 l/bottles.)
FINISHING: Long maceration time on the mash, to give even the slightest chance of liquid flowing off on pressing. Sharp clarification and pre-filtration, carefully monitored conditions during fermentation that lasted over 6 weeks. Racking and filtration before preparation for filling in May. Filling end of June 2008.
CAN BE STORED: up to at least 2075 – a great wine here and today is a 1921 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from the Reichsrat von Buhl estate.
RECOMMENDED DISHES: Ask again in 20 – 40 years, and it will be easier for us too
