Forster Kirckenstuck Spatlese Trocken GG
WINE: Here is where the heart of the Palatinate Riesling beats. On this ground, the grape can develop the virtues typical of this variety to the full, like almost nowhere else. This wine is almost overabundant with fruity aromas, and yet despite this richness of flavour, it still manages to maintain its innate royal elegance - voilà Riesling royal!
The 2007 vintage now shows the consistency of the Kirchenstück in a sequence over several years. Right on the nose it shows that lush exotic touch coupled with tangy smoke aromas, reminiscent of vine shoots. In the flavour it first of all comes brazenly into its own, the fruitiness of the dry wine is almost unending, but then has a filigree long finish.
SOIL: The special position of this site was already attested to back in 1828. The 6-foot sandstone wall surrounding and protecting the site, transfers the heat that is stored during the day, back into the vines during the night. This, along with the rich soils of sandstone, limestone scree, basalt and loess, is what is behind the ripeness of this sensual wine.
HARVEST: 11.10.2007
YIELD: 20 hl/ha
FINISHING: Carefully finished, sedimentation overnight in stainless steel tanks, and then fermentation and storage on the primary yeast in large wooden casts. First and one-off racking at the end of April. Filling for our Kirchenstück was done in the first week in July.
CAN BE STORED: No problem up to 2025
RECOMMENDED DISHES: Our recommendation: just let it sit for a good while. Experience shows that it goes excellently with dishes displaying many different aspects: sweet and sour, strong and yet it loves sophisticated flavours. A speciality with the Kirchenstück is hard cheeses with a large degree of crystalline structure, like Parmesan, Uralt Gouda.
