The International Riesling Tasting brings fantastic reviews for our Von Buhl Paradisegarten

Our Von Buhl Paradisegarten has gained magnificent notoriety in the International Riesling Tasting.
Sarah Ahmed AKA The Wine Detective and Tom Cannavan (Wine Pages) voted Von Buhl’s Paradiesgarten a favourite at the event at Howard Park.

“This weekend, I’ve been at Howard Park guesting at their international Riesling tasting. I’ll write up a full report later, but this was a fine showcase for Riesling’s pulse and postcode, with scintillating dry and off-dry Rieslings from Alsace, Australia, Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Washington State strutting their very own stuff. All wines hailed from the 2007 vintage. Of course the European wines, especially the German wines, showed well thanks to particularly long hang times that year, perfect for flavour accumulation and concentration with balance” Sarah Ahmed, The Wine Detective

Sarah then went on to describe Von Buhl’s Paradiesgarten as one of her favourites:

“Von Buhl’s Paradiesgarten from Pfalz, Germany, showed bounteous fruit, almost over the top but carried off (style and length-wise) and held in check by juicy, fruity acidity.”

Tom Cannavan explains the process:

“Now in its fourth year, the Burch’s and the winemaking team at Howard Park assemble around 100 Rieslings from the same vintage across the globe, which they taste and whittle down to a final selection of just 21 wines, representing the best of both Australian and global Riesling. Then over the Riesling weekend, a large group of consumers and trade descend on the winery for a morning in which all 21 wines are tasted blind and assessed, and a panel of speakers talk about the wines on show. I was kindly invited to represent the German wines in this year’s line-up of 2007 vintage wines.” Tom Cannavan, 10/09

And when it came to tasting, Tom Cannavan had high praise for the Von Buhl Paradisegarten which received a very high score:

Reichstrat Von Buhl Paradiesgarten Deidensheim QbA Trocken 2007, Pfalz, Germany

“Tropical fruit explosion! Masses of unctuous lychee and guava, almost mango like fruit. Behind is a core of minerality – almost salty, in a multi-layered aromatic profile. The palate has that density, but is much more linear and focused. The acidity builds in this, which is a rich wine, but a focused, sharp one too.” 92/100. Tom Cannavan, 10/09
